Caroline Bailey
Caroline began her career in textile design but also painted from an early stage. She is an elected member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolours, has won numerous awards for her work and has exhibited very widely. Strong, bold colours characterise her work which nowadays is mainly in mixed media. In reference to her exhibition at Morven Gallery, Caroline says: 'Landscape and Sea is still at the centre of my work and the Western Light is the catalyst which brings them to life. It reveals the form of the land catching its dimension and picking out the pattern of human existence as walls, fields and dwellings superimposed on it. I am interested in making surfaces and creating textures, layering on different colours, often eroding one to partially reveal another. I also like to use thinner, brighter and lighter colours over thicker darker ones to create something of the transience of the light.'
