Jennifer Mackenzie
Jennifer lives and works in Sutherland but originates from Lanarkshire. She is a graduate of Glasgow School of Art (1971) and taught Art and Design in schools until she became a full time professional artist in 2001.
She has exhibited widely in Scotland and has had several solo exhibitions in different galleries.
In her own words: "My work is very much a personal response to my environment in terms of colour, light and space, and in the Scottish painterly tradition, reflecting my time at the Glasgow School of art with tutors such as Bill Bone, Sandy Goudie, and David Donaldson. My paintings explore the distinctive characteristics of oil paint through my favoured subject matter of flowers and collected objects in the studio."
Jan Patience, the Art Critic of the Herald, recently wrote: "…. this fine painter …. observes the changing effects of light on the colours of flowers and personal memorabilia. During the short winter days the colours are muted, but as the year moves on the light strengthens and this is reflected in more intense colours."
